More great news for young people in St. Peter’s ward!

St. Peter’s Youth (SPY) has successfully obtained an AALA  (Adventure Activities Licensing Authority) license.  This will allow young people to safely experience exciting and stimulating outdoor activities.

Carl Kelsall said: “The aim of adventure activities licensing is to provide assurances to the public about the safety of those activity providers who have been granted a licence.

“In this way it is expected that young people will be able to continue to enjoy exciting and stimulating activities outdoors without being exposed to avoidable risks of death or disabling injury.

“The award of this licence shows that SPY has been inspected by the Adventure Activities Licensing Service with particular attention being paid to our safety management systems. We have been able to demonstrate compliance with nationally accepted standards of good practice in the delivery of adventure activities to young people, with focus on the benefits and risks of each activity.”

Activities that SPY is now licensed to provide to young people are: rock climbing including unroped scrambling and weaselling, abseiling, hill walking and mountaineering and an activities calendar is being create for 2010.
