Board the bus for help with paying your rent and council tax

13 to 17 December 2010

The Benefits Bus is returning to town with staff on board to help people with their benefit claims.

Benefits staff will assist residents to make a claim for help with paying their rent and council tax if they are on a low income or out of work. They can also assist with claims for other benefits.

The bus will be visiting Ashton Market Ground everyday during week commencing 13 December 2010. It will stop between 10.00am and 3.00pm.

The bus has disabled access and private interview rooms. It is also equipped with a satellite link to Tameside Council so residents can have their benefit entitlement checked straight away.

Tameside Council Executive Member for Performance and Finance Cllr Jim Fitzpatrick said: "In the current economic climate it is more important than ever that people claim the benefits to which they are entitled. The benefits bus brings this help right into the heart of communities, making it simple and quick for people to get the support and advice they need to make the appropriate claims."
